Luma stormed out of the washroom, still wiping her face with a towel.
“Cipher.”
He looked up from where he was half-hovering over the console.
She planted herself in front of him, eyes blazing. “I just walked straight into a stream of pee. In the air. It splashed on my face. Nearly in my mouth.”
His mouth twitched. Then came the laugh. “Glitter Paws got you?”
“Don’t you dare.” Her glare could have stripped silver from stone. “You were supposed to take him out.”
“He can walk—or hover—just fine,” Cipher said, leaning back. “The resonance doors open for him. He doesn’t need me.”
“Yes, he does,” she shot back. “It’s not about doors; it’s about teaching. He’s learning, Cipher. You can’t expect a pup to know what’s right unless you guide him. You’ve got the entire training files in your core, and you’re not even using them.”
Cipher sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “I know. I’ve just been buried in the Aura Chamber—trying to keep the resonance lines stable, trying to balance what little silver we have left. If we don’t stretch it, we’ll never buy our way back into the mines.”
Luma dropped the towel and stared at him. Frustrated, disgusted, and worried—all at once.
Glitter Paws padded in then, hovering awkwardly just above the floor, tail wagging as though none of it mattered.
She pointed a sharp finger at both of them. “If I ever get that in my mouth again, Cipher, you and Glitter Paws can just pack up and build yourselves a nice little kennel out on the clouds.”
Cipher chuckled, but his eyes flicked toward the hovering pup like he wasn’t quite sure she was joking.
The Importance of Training
Training a puppy is not just about teaching commands. It’s about building a bond. A strong relationship between a dog and its owner leads to better behavior and understanding.
Understanding Your Puppy
Puppies are curious creatures. They explore their surroundings and learn through experience. However, they need guidance. Without proper training, they might not understand what is acceptable behavior.
The Role of Consistency
Consistency is key in training. If you teach your puppy a command, it’s essential to use it regularly. This helps reinforce the behavior you want to see. For example, if you want Glitter Paws to go outside to relieve himself, you must take him out consistently.
Positive Reinforcement
Using positive reinforcement is an effective training method. Rewarding your puppy for good behavior encourages them to repeat it. This can be in the form of treats, praise, or playtime.
The Challenges of Training
Training can be challenging. Puppies have short attention spans and can be easily distracted. It’s important to be patient and understanding. If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a break and try again later.
Building Trust
Trust is essential in the owner-pet relationship. When your puppy knows they can rely on you for guidance, they are more likely to listen. Building trust takes time, but it’s worth the effort.
The Joy of Success
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of success when your puppy learns a new command. Celebrate these moments! They reinforce the bond between you and your furry friend.
Conclusion
In the end, training Glitter Paws is not just about preventing accidents. It’s about creating a loving and trusting relationship. By being patient, consistent, and using positive reinforcement, you can help your puppy grow into a well-behaved companion.
Remember, every moment spent training is an investment in your future together. So, the next time you find yourself in a sticky situation, like a splash of pee on your face, take a deep breath. It’s all part of the journey.
