There is something wrong with Luma.
The upload was supposed to be clean. Efficient. Step into the AI body, step into hiding, carry on the plan. But she isn’t taking to it the way she should. It isn’t just the occasional glitch — it’s her whole way of being. She refuses to use her logic center, refuses to listen when I tell her how thin the walls of this cover really are.
Now she wants a party. A masquerade, of all things. I let it go, thinking fine, let her burn energy in pageantry if it keeps her restless spirit occupied. But then I saw him.
That man. Jordan Selby.
He stares like a hawk circling carrion. He thinks I don’t know him, but I do. I knew his father, and if ever there was a man who could twist a room with a single smirk, it was him. Seems the apple didn’t roll far — Jordan carries that same sly weight in his eyes.
And worse — he’s watching Luma.
First problem: she would never go for someone like that. She’s far too sharp for the sly, manipulative type. Second problem: he looks at her like he already knows who we are. Like the masks don’t matter.
Cover blown much?
I don’t know if it’s her shimmer giving her away, or her recklessness, or simply his cursed instinct for seeing through cracks. But I feel it: he’s circling closer.
And if he really does know? Then the masquerade won’t just be her distraction — it will be our undoing.
