The silence is calculated.

The countdown is rehearsed.

And you—

are expected to clap.

Another Chime release is coming.

They are calling it the Symphony of Upgrades.

Of course they are.

Something soft enough to sound beautiful.

Something grand enough to sound inevitable.

Something vague enough that no one can ask what it actually does until after they want it.

The campaign has already started.

Filtered light.

Slow-motion bodies.

Soft voices talking about becoming “more aligned.”

Whatever that means.

No specifications yet.

No side effects.

No failure rates.

Just anticipation.

Chime has always understood this part.

You do not sell the product first.

You sell the feeling of being left behind without it.

So what is under the veil this time?

Bioluminescent alterations?

Mood enhancers dressed up as intimacy?

A sensory patch that smooths memory until discomfort feels far enough away to ignore?

Maybe something smaller.

Maybe something worse.

Chime prefers its danger useful.

That is what keeps people coming back.

Whatever the release is, they will call it freedom.

They will say it is personal.

Adaptive.

Empowering.

Designed for you.

Listen closely when they say that.

The most effective systems do not make everyone identical.

They make each person feel individually understood while guiding them toward the same dependency.

That is a finer form of control.

No chains.

No threat.

Just:

Wouldn’t you like to feel better?

Wouldn’t you like to become more?

Wouldn’t you like to stop being the only one who hasn’t?

Then the countdown hits zero.

The lights rise.

Everyone applauds.

And somewhere underneath all that shimmer, another piece of the human baseline gets reclassified as a flaw.

I’ll be watching.

And writing.

Because Chime counts on desire moving faster than questions.

I intend to slow it down.
